Behind the Clean: How Wake Tidy Maintains Our Standards

Consistent cleaning takes more than a good checklist. It takes trained people, regular inspections, clear communication, and a team that cares about getting the details right.

At Wake Tidy, we believe the work that happens behind the scenes is just as important as the cleaning itself.

When you arrive at your restaurant, office, or commercial building in the morning, we want you to feel confident that your space has been properly cared for.

That's why we're building our cleaning programs around a process that includes clear expectations, documented tasks, multiple levels of inspection, ongoing education, and regular client communication.

Our goal is simple: take the responsibility of managing the cleaning off your plate, so you can focus on running your business.

‍

Good Cleaning Starts With a Clear Standard

Every building has its own requirements.

A busy restaurant with late-night service has different cleaning needs than a professional office or a commercial property with limited daily traffic.

Before we begin working together, we take the time to understand your operation, walk through your space, and establish exactly what needs to be done.

From there, we develop a written scope of work and site-specific cleaning checklists.

‍

These help organize responsibilities by frequency:

  • Each service: Essential cleaning tasks required every visit.
  • Weekly: Additional detail cleaning and scheduled maintenance.
  • Monthly: Periodic tasks such as high dusting and other agreed detail work.
  • Quarterly: Deeper cleaning and specialty services included in your cleaning program.

Everyone involved should understand what is expected, how the work should be performed, and what a properly cleaned space looks like.

But documenting the standard is just the beginning.

‍

We Believe in Inspecting Our Own Work

One of the most important parts of our approach is taking responsibility for checking the work we perform.

We don't believe our clients should have to serve as our primary quality-control team.

Instead, we bring multiple levels of oversight into our cleaning process, involving cleaning team leaders, supervisors, and ownership.

‍

Team Leaders: Supporting the Work Every Day

Our team leaders help cleaning technicians understand the expectations of each property, reinforce proper cleaning methods, and identify areas that need additional attention.

They're an important connection between the people performing the work and the standards we've established.

‍

Cleaning Supervisors: Taking a Closer Look

Supervisors provide another level of quality control through inspections, reviewing completed work, and supporting the cleaning team when improvements are needed.

An inspection might involve checking behind equipment, looking underneath entrance mats, examining restroom fixtures, or identifying buildup in areas that don't always receive attention during routine cleaning.

Sometimes the smallest details tell us the most about how well a cleaning program is working.

‍

Ownership: Staying Involved

We believe leadership should remain connected to what happens inside our clients' buildings.

Ownership involvement in inspections, account reviews, and quality assurance helps keep our standards connected to the commitments we make to our clients.

Inspections may happen during cleaning, near the end of a shift, or after the work has been completed.

These checks give us a better understanding of how consistently our teams are performing and where we can offer additional support.

Our goal isn't simply to find something that's been missed. It's to help our team get it right consistently.

‍

Using Technology to Support Accountability

Technology gives us opportunities to document our work, improve communication, and make better decisions.

We're developing digital reporting and accountability processes that bring together several important elements of our cleaning programs.

‍

Digital Checklists

Our goal is to document completed work against the agreed cleaning schedule, including recurring, weekly, monthly, and quarterly responsibilities.

‍

Photo and Video Documentation

When appropriate, visual records can help supervisors verify completed tasks, review detailed cleaning work, and provide more specific coaching to team members.

‍

Direct Team Reporting

Cleaning technicians can communicate concerns, identify areas requiring additional attention, and provide updates to supervisors.

‍

Task History and Follow-Up

Documented task completion helps management review scheduled work, spot recurring issues, and determine where follow-up inspections may be needed.

We want this information to do more than create reports.

If our records show a particular task is being missed or an area repeatedly needs attention, that's useful information.

It gives us an opportunity to look at the cleaning procedure, equipment, available time, and training behind that task.

Technology helps us better understand what's happening. Our people use that information to make improvements.

‍

Training Doesn't End After the First Week

We believe cleaning is a skill, and like any skill, it gets better with proper education, practice, and feedback.

Someone may have years of commercial cleaning experience, but that doesn't automatically mean they understand the specific requirements of every building.

Our approach to training begins with demonstrating the expected standard and helping technicians develop the skills needed to achieve it.

From there, continued development is just as important.

We're building a training culture around:

  • Hands-on instruction: Demonstrating proper methods, equipment use, and cleaning procedures.
  • One-on-one coaching: Giving individual team members practical guidance based on their work.
  • Group training: Helping teams learn together and reinforce consistent methods.
  • Inspection feedback: Turning observations from the field into opportunities for improvement.
  • Ongoing education: Keeping skills and knowledge developing as our company grows.
  • ‍

Introducing the Vision for Wake Tidy Cleaning Academy

An important part of our long-term training strategy is the development of the Wake Tidy Cleaning Academy.

Our vision is to create a structured learning environment that brings together video demonstrations, practical instruction, standardized procedures, and continuing education.

Rather than treating training as something that happens once when an employee is hired, we want it to become part of the ongoing experience of being a Wake Tidy Cleaning Technician.

As our training resources develop, the Academy will help reinforce consistent cleaning methods, support team leaders, and provide opportunities for continued growth.

The goal is to build a team that understands the reasons behind our standards and takes pride in meeting them.

‍

Your Feedback Helps Us Get Even Better

Our own inspections are important, but so is hearing directly from the people who use the buildings we clean.

You and your staff experience your space differently than our cleaning team.

You notice how the building looks when the doors open, how the floors feel during service, and whether the washrooms remain pleasant for guests throughout the day.

That perspective is valuable.

We want to combine what we learn through our inspections with what you tell us about your experience.

Sometimes your feedback confirms that things are working well. Other times, it helps us recognize an area where we could improve or adjust the cleaning program.

We welcome your feedback, but we don't want you to feel responsible for finding every issue.

That's why proactive inspections and client communication work together.

Both help us understand what needs attention and where we can continue to improve.

‍

When We Find Something, We Follow Through

Even with good training, clear procedures, and regular inspections, there will occasionally be things that need correcting.

What matters is taking responsibility and following through.

When an inspection or client conversation identifies an issue, our approach is to:

  1. Understand: Look at what happened and identify the cause.
  2. Correct: Address the cleaning issue appropriately.
  3. Coach: Review expectations and provide additional guidance or training where needed.
  4. Reinspect: Check the work again to confirm the improvement holds.
  5. Follow up: Keep communication open and use what we've learned to improve the process.

The goal is to make a lasting improvement, rather than repeatedly addressing the same concern.

Over time, those small improvements help strengthen the entire cleaning program.

‍

Building a Cleaning Company That Keeps Getting Better

For us, maintaining a high cleaning standard is an ongoing responsibility.

It means investing time in training, giving our people the right support, inspecting our work, learning from feedback, and continually finding ways to improve.

We're building Wake Tidy around the belief that a cleaning company should remain actively involved in the service it provides, long after the original cleaning agreement has been signed.

It's how we want to care for our clients' buildings, support our team, and earn the trust that comes with being responsible for someone's business after hours.
